CANNON BEACH & OREGON COAST

Cannon Beach Yurt and Tent Camping

PART 2 of 3 for Our 2 Week Road Trip – See Part 1 if you missed it!

We left beautiful Washington State for Oregon next! We headed out early to get to Cannon Beach on time. But, have enough time to stop along the way on Hwy 5! If you haven’t taken this drive, DO IT SOON! It’s one of the most beautiful coastal drives! We stopped somewhere along the way in an adorable seaside town where we saw Seals sunbathing and got some DELICIOUS ice cream!

When we got to Cannon Beach, we had some time to kill before meeting with our photographer. So we got a beer and burger at Public Coast Brewery. We then met our photographer, had a fun, quick session, then we just watched the sunset before heading out.

While we had our beer, we were also trying to find a place to stay that night. It is hard for me to relax fully on vacation. Since owning my own business, I like plans. That way, we know exactly where we are going to be and enjoy everything else. But, I comprised with Justin and didn’t plan two nights of our trip. We have had a mini argument each time as I was worried we’d sleep in our car. But, thankfully, this time, we found a YURT to sleep in! YES, I have always wanted to sleep in one, so this was great! Thankfully a few weeks before this trip, I learned about HipCamp and found a bed to sleep in for the night.

The Yurt was excellent camping, as we got to sleep in a heat and a bed! Along with taking a well-needed hot shower! I love camping because it reminds you of the things you take for granted in everyday life. The cherry on top of all that is that our host had freshly made coffee in the morning for us! We chatted with him about his property, and we all said it would be an AMAZING location for a wedding! (wink wink)

The following night was another that we had not planned. We drove into Portland to get a donut from Voodoo Doughnuts to see what all the fuss was about. They were sooo good! And we loved the names! We didn’t stay long, as we didn’t want to be in the city anymore. As that is why we are camping, getting away from people. 🙂

While we drove South, we were calling and searching online, trying to find a place. Most places were all booked up. But, thankfully, we found a campground that had one spot left! And they were willing to save it for us! So we headed to Seal Cove RV & Camping. We usually stay clear of RV parks as there are generally too many people too close together. So we weren’t expecting much, BUT we got a fantastic camping spot! It was just a few hundred or so yards from the ocean! We could see it from our camp! We were so giddy about that!

So we set up camp, then walked down to the beach. It was a beautiful rocky beach, where we saw birds and a few seals just chilling! We could have walked forever, but we were getting hungry. It was fantastic to sit by the fire, drinking some wine and hearing the ocean just off in the distance. The only downside to this spot was the wind. It put our fire our FAST, and I didn’t sleep much as I was FREEZING all night. Usually camping, my feet get super cold, and I put a hand warmer down at the bottom, but it didn’t cut it this time.

BUT, when we woke up, we made breakfast and coffee with the sun. After packing up our camp, we drank our coffee down by the ocean. It was the best way to enjoy a cup of coffee! The best track on our whole trip!

Our last stop in Oregon was Sunset Bay, State Park. It is a beautiful park, filled with super friendly RV & long-term Campers! We took a short hike up the cliff, where we saw an exquisite overlook of the ocean. We walked around during low tide, looking for small crabs. Justin finally got to see a red crab he’s been looking for. It was a beautiful relaxing walk, perfect before dinner and a fire.

Want to hear a funny story?

Our camping neighbors were camping with their petite babe, and they were up late watching their fire before it rained too. As we were getting to bed, we heard a car horn. Which, of course, woke up their babe. But, we think they were trying to have adult time in the car and accidentally hit the horn. Oops!

When we woke up, we packed up our wet tent and were excited to head to the Redwoods! Blog coming soon!
