The raddest end to a great road trip from Washington to California

We planned for San Fransisco being the end of our trip because it was the easiest and cheapest airport to fly out of along our trip. Plus it was a city neither of us has been to, either, so it was fun to explore for the first time together!
We started super early from our campsite in the Redwoods for our Airbnb in Lafayette California. Starting early so we could take our time, also we just happened to wake up early too! But, also because we wanted to check into our Airbnb, change and make it early enough to get in line for the Alcatraz Tour. We made it to our Airbnb, which was an adorable guest house, about 30 minutes outside San Fransisco. Our host let us in on everything and thankfully got an air conditioner just before we arrived. This was something we needed to cool it off a bit during the day. But, at night we had the windows open 🙂
We booked the sunset tour for Alcatraz, and so glad we did! It was a beautiful ride over!
I didn’t take my camera with me, but sure wish I did! But, I took a few phone photos that still show how beautiful it was! Alcatraz was amazing to see, hear the stories and talk to the tour guides. The history of the Rock is awesome! You might only think it was a prison, but it has so much more history than that! Justin and I are major history buffs, so hearing new stories were awesome!
If you have never been I strongly suggest going TWICE! Once at night like we did see the amazing sunset and some of the night tours that are only open at that time. But, then go again during the day, and stay as long as you want! That was the only thing we wish we could have done, we missed some part of the prison, and the events we really wanted to see. But, we are planning another trip soon!

I always wake up early on vacation so I can drink coffee in the quiet. Well, I actually love mornings to myself. It’s the best way to start the day for me. While I was drinking my coffee, I noticed out the window a deer and fawn. They were just eating breakfast too! A cool thing while in a city to see nature!
We went back into the city to drive around and see the Painted Ladies, the house from Full House, the Sutro Baths, and drive down the curviest road.
It was crazy driving around the city! The roads are NUTS! But, man oh so much fun! My favorite location to this day was the Sutro Baths! Probably why I wanted to photograph an engagement session there! It was awesome to sit by the ocean, imagine what it looked like when it was all still there. Also, imagine what it would be like if it was still there today! We also walked as much of the trail we could before it started to rain. It was such a beautiful walk.
Sadly the only time we saw the Golden Gate Bridge was on the boat to Alcatraz. We had drizzly weather the whole time we were in the city. But, we weren’t complaining at all, it made the city even more beautiful!
On our last day in California, we didn’t leave our Airbnb at all! We slept in, ate the rest of our food and watched Netflix. It was the most perfect way to end a vacation where we were always on the go!
