2 WEEKS CAMPING, WI-MN

Northern Wisconsin & Minnesota Camping for two weeks!

Last Summer I randomly looked at Justin and we had this rad discussion:

Me – Hey, you wanna go on a road trip?

Justin – When?

Me – Now, we have 2 weeks of randomly nothing!

Justin – Where?

Me – North!

Justin – Sure!

Great conversation, right!? Camping and road-trips is how we relieve our stress. Summer is a crazy busy time for us. Stress has a way of creeping up on us before we know it. So this impromptu road-trip was exactly what we needed! So we packed our gear, replenished our stove fuel and left. Well, of course we packed our clothes, swimsuit and essentials! Jumped into the car and headed North.

I was no GPS for the majority of our trip too, the paper map only!

We cannot remember all the campsites and campgrounds we randomly found, as I forgot to journal along the way. I just wanted to relax and explore. One night we stopped at an amazing campground where we could listen to the water when we woke up.

But, this great event happened with a new friend:

We were sitting by the fire, enjoying a beer for Justin and wine for me. We roasted some smores, eating our fair share of marshmallows! I felt something on my leg, swatted it away. A bit later, Justin did the same. This happened a few times before we shined a light around us. Well, that is when we saw it, A HUGE SPIDER! Yea, we were swatting that thing back and forth, as it was attached to our wood pile by his web. (Or as others might say his butt string!) Then, we flashed the light on the table, where we found a lot more of his friends. Quickly realized we were surrounded! I freaked out, brushed everything off, put the food away in the car and ran to the tent! Where we finished off the drinks we had before going to bed.

It was one of my worst nightmares!

We were thankful to not be staying there for a second night, as we didn’t want to deal with that again! So we continued North! Before this, we headed to a store for ice, where they also served Ice Cream. So naturally we got some, Justin got the mint chocolate chip and I got a root beer float! I CRAVE root beer floats often, reminds me of being a kid! Do you agree!? From there we couldn’t find a campground with an open site for MILES and MILES! But, thankfully Justin’s Grandma left close by so we camped in their front yard!

We made it to the North Shore of Minnesota, one of my favorite places in the Midwest! Here we went to our go-to campground (which we are keeping a secret, because it is NEVER crowded! Sorry!) But, the campsite we wanted was already taken, so we found a new one with a water overlook! We stayed there for a couple of nights before headed out to a campsite very near to the water!

Since our campground didn’t have a shower, we bathed in the lake.

We have had to do this a few time, but I hate having to pay for a shower, and it’s easy! Plus, I planned on going swimming anyway! I loved going for a walk down by the water as the sunset. When a kid walked up to the dock to go fishing, I took a quick picture of the lake. This kid probably thought I was nuts, as he left quickly after me.

Our nights camping our mainly filled with drinks, games and making dinner over the fire! We always have games in the car, ready to go! We just enjoy the quiet as much as possible, along with talking about life. Reminding us what life was like before cell phones and google! We can’t just Google something when we don’t know the answer. It takes us a few moments, or hours sometimes to remember! OH, the good ole days!

Our go to hiking and summer sandals are Teva’s for sure! I have tried Chaco’s and didn’t like them nearly as much. Still have them and are not giving up on them! So stay tuned if I change my mind!

Justin has permanent Teva Sandal tan-lines!

People comment on them all the time when he’s barefoot. Or when they see his feet in photos! People remind us that she should wear sunscreen! The funny thing is, that we do! Every single time we leave the house! He just tans super easy, and they stick around all year!

When we got to our last campsite of the trip. It happened to be right by Lake Superior! We set up camp, took a shower because it’s been a few days! Went for a short hike, bought a little bit more food and watched the sunset. On our last full day, we just explored all over the North Shore! Then we went swimming in Lake Superior! Have you done it!? It’s COLD!

But, the little cove, where it’s posted NOT TO SWIM, but we did at our own risk! I stayed where I could touch most of the time, as I am strangely scared of DEEP water! Justin’ swam all over, and even jumped off a cliff with some other dare devils.

Before you get all angry with me, the locals were swimming with us too!

It can be a dangerous spot swimming if you are not a strong simmer OR if the water us rough. But, the day we were there it was so calm!

OH, and you want to know why I am scared of deep water!?

Well, I learned how to swim before I could walk. My brother was annoyed of watching me, so he told me if I went into the deep end the snakes would get me! So this was said so many time, I got a major fear of snakes in any body of water – even toilets! So there it is 🙂

Do you like pie!?

On our way out, we tried the pie at a local restaurant! We knew it was a SUPER busy place, so we got there before the lunch rush! The pie WAS SO GOOD! if you are ever in the area you must try Betty’s Pies! If you pass it, don’t worry there is another amazing place for breakfast and pie! Rustic Inn is also delicious!
